We have a dedicated team of over 50 oncology physicians with an average of 23 years of industry and clinical experience, in countries across Europe, North America, Latin America and Asia. Labcorp physicians’ experience extend from translational/early phase development through product launch, late-phase/post marketing studies. 

Our medical team has been carefully selected based upon clinical, academic, and industry experience that cover the majority of oncology indications including pediatric oncology.

Within this oncology medical team is a specialized team of oncology medical consultants. This team provides expertise in life-cycle management of specific tumor indications including clinical development planning and strategy, establishment of target product profiles, program feasibility, risk assessment, and execution, registries, as well as program- and study-level medical oversight.

Meet the Team

Ariel E. Aguiló, MD
Senior Medical Director

Ariel Aguiló, MD, Senior Medical Director for Labcorp Clinical Development Services in Buenos Aires, Argentina, is a board-certified oncologist specialized in gastrointestinal tumors. He provides subject matter expertise and support for the development and conduct of clinical trials on clients’ drug development projects, including serving as the company’s subject matter expert for Decentralized Clinical Trials (DCT). Dr. Aguiló performs medical monitoring on assigned projects, contributes to the medical strategy and execution of clinical programs, and brings scientific strategic leadership to the Oncology area at Labcorp. He has 10 years of experience as a physician, medical advisor and medical director in drug research and development. Before joining Labcorp, he served as Medical Director for Syneos Health in Buenos Aires, and prior to that, served as Medical Advisor for IQVIA in Buenos Aires. Dr. Aguiló began his career as Attending Physician, GI Oncology Department, Hospital de Gastroenterologia. He joined Labcorp in November 2019

Liliana Baila, MD
Senior Medical Director

Liliana Baila, MD, is Senior Medical Director for Labcorp Clinical Development Services, based in Brussels, Belgium. She serves as lead project physician on clients’ drug development projects. Dr. Baila provides medical/scientific support to project teams, performs medical and safety monitoring on assigned projects, and develops and reviews protocols, case report forms and other data and materials. Dr. Baila has more than 25 years of experience as a physician, research clinician and medical director. Before joining Labcorp, she served as Clinical Research Physician for the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) in Brussels. Dr. Baila began her career as a physician training in neonatology and pediatrics at University Hospital in Romania. She joined Labcorp in June 2020.

Maria Ignacia Berraondo, MD
Senior Medical Director

Maria Ignacia Berraondo, MD, is Senior Medical Director for Labcorp Clinical Development Services, based in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She provides clinical and medical expertise to project teams and other Labcorp departments to advance clients’ drug development programs. Dr. Berraondo performs medical and safety monitoring on assigned projects; develops and reviews protocols, case report forms and other data and materials, and contributes to the scientific strategic leadership of the Oncology area at Labcrop. Dr. Berraondo has more than 10 years of experience in hematology and as a medical advisor and physician, with six years in clinical research, including as a director in clinical research and development. Before joining Lbcrop, she served as Medical Director at IQVIA in Buenos Aires. Dr. Berraondo joined Labcrop in July 2020.

Stefanella Bortini, PhD, MD
Senior Medical Director

Stefanella Bortini, MD, PhD, is Senior Medical Director, Oncology, for Labcorp Clinical Development Services, based in Milano, Italy. She contributes to the development of Labcorp policies involving medical, safety and therapeutics, and serves as global lead project physician on assigned projects. Dr. Bortini brings more than 30 years of experience in clinical research to Labcorp. Before joining the company, she was Senior Director, Medical Affairs, Oncology, for Chiltern International in Milan. She also has held positions with i3 Research, PRA International, Pharmacia & Upjohn, and Eli Lilly. Dr. Bortini is medically licensed by the Italian Board of Medical and Surgical Examiners and holds ECFMG Medical Certification for the U.S. She received her medical degree from the University of Firenze in Italy, and her PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Northwestern University. She joined Labcorp in July 2019.

Jose Daniel Fanjul Fuente, MD
Medical Director

Jose Daniel Fanjul Fuente, MD, is Medical Director, Oncology, for Labcorp Clinical Development Services, based in Madrid, Spain. He provides medical and scientific guidance and support to project teams and investigative sites on clients’ drug development projects, and reviews protocols, case report forms, clinical study reports and other data and materials. Dr. Fuente has more than 10 years of experience as a physician and medical director in clinical research and development specializing in oncology. Before his current position, he held medical director and manager positions in oncology with IQVIA and Bristol Myers Squibb in Buenos Aires, Argentina. At Bristol Myers Squibb, Dr. Fuente led scientific activities that gave impetus to the product line of the oncology therapeutic area (Nivolumab and Ipilimumab). He joined Labcorp in October 2018.

Senior Medical Director

Begoña de las Heras Garcia, MD, is Senior Medical Director, Oncology, for Labcorp Clinical Development Services, based in Madrid, Spain. She is board certified Medical Oncologist, by La Paz hospital, Madrid, Spain.  Begoña joined Labcorp in 2016. She serves as project physician on clients’ drug development projects and provides medical/scientific expertise to project teams/business development teams. Also, she has line management activities of a group of MDs in the Oncology TA. She brings more than 20 years of national and international clinical oncology research experience to Labcorp. Before her current position, she served as Executive Medical Officer, Early Phase, for Chiltern in the UK. She also has held clinical research positions with Eisai in the UK and a several organizations in Spain including Pivotal CRO, Pharma Mar, AstraZeneca and Bristol-Myers Squibb. She also, was oncologist consult in several hospitals in Spain,  General Yagüe Hospital in Burgos,  Ntra Sra. Del Prado Hospital in Talavera de la Reina (Toledo) and La Paz Hospital in Madrid.

Katie L. Greenwood, MD
Medical Director

Katie L. Greenwood, MD is a Medical Director, Oncology based in Princeton, New Jersey. She serves as a global lead project physician on client projects. Dr. Greenwood develops and reviews protocols, case report forms and other materials. She analyzes and reviews clinical trial reports and new drug applications. She also is responsible for medical and safety monitoring on clinical trials. Dr. Greenwood has more than eight years of experience as a pediatric physician and specializes in hematology/oncology with emphasis on bone marrow transplant, immunotherapy, and cell and gene therapy. Before joining Covance, she served on faculty at Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children’s Hospital, Houston as a pediatric hematologist-oncologist. Dr. Greenwood has won numerous awards and authored several publications, presentations, and abstracts. Dr. Greenwood joined Covance in February 2021.

Brian Hamilton, MD, PhD
Senior Medical Director

Brian Hamilton, MD, PhD, is Senior Medical Director for Labcorp Clinical Development Services, based in Newton, Massachusetts. He serves as Labcorp Subject Matter Expert for cellular immune-oncology, CAR-T and gene therapy. He also serves as global lead project physician on clients’ drug development projects. Dr. Hamilton has more than 35 years of experience in pediatric medicine, immunology, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, and clinical research and development. Before joining Labcorp, he served as Executive Medical Monitor for Chiltern International. He has also held senior-level medical director, director physician, regulatory affairs and clinical research positions with Galena Biopharma, AstraZeneca, Onyx Pharmaceuticals, Wyeth Oncology, and other pharmaceutical and biotech firms. Dr. Hamilton joined Labcorp in August 2018.

Medical Director

Konstantin Haradinov, MD, is Medical Director, Oncology, for Labcorp Clinical Development Services, based in Sofia, Bulgaria. He contributes to the development of Labcorp policies involving medical, safety and therapeutics; serves as global lead project physician and provides medical and safety monitoring on assigned projects; reviews medical data and provides clinical and medical expertise to project teams and other Labcorp departments, and performs safety trend analyses. Dr. Haradinov has more than 15 years of experience in clinical research as a medical director and physician/oncologist. Before joining Labcorp, he served as Medical Officer, Oncology, for Chiltern International in Sofia, Bulgaria. Dr. Haradinov joined Labcorp in April 2019.

He Huang is Senior Director, Asia Pacific (APAC) for Labcorp Clinical Development Services, based in Shanghai, China.  He brings more than 10 years of experience as a physician and researcher in oncology, respiratory therapy and drug development to Labcorp. Before joining Labcorp, He served as Disease Area Head, Oncology/GI, for Bristol-Myers Squibb in Shanghai. He also served as Senior Manager, Respiratory, for AstraZeneca, and Medical Manager, Oncology/GI, for Roche, in Shanghai. He received the Global Champion and China CEO award at AstraZeneca. He began career as Medical Oncologist at Affiliated Hospital of Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan, China. He joined Labcorp in September 2019.

Adrianne Kelly, MD
Senior Medical Director

Adrianne Kelly, MD, is a Contracted Senior Medical Director for Labcorp Clinical Development Services, based in Princeton, New Jersey, and Chief Medical Officer of Jude, Peregrine and Kelly Consultants, LLC, in Bethesda, Maryland. She serves as lead project physician on clients’ drug development projects. Dr. Kelly provides medical/scientific feedback on protocols and clinical development plans, input on site feasibility relative to protocol requirements, medical monitoring on assigned projects, and training to project teams. She has more than 30 years of experience as a physician, clinical researcher and drug developer focused on hematology/oncology. Dr. Kelly earned her medical degree from Georgetown University and has received more than a dozen awards for leadership in healthcare and academic achievement. Dr. Kelly joined Labcrop in August 2010.

Senior Medical Director

Geoffrey Kannan, PhD, MD, is a Senior Medical Director in the Oncology Therapeutic Area for Labcorp Clinical Development Services, based in Princeton, New Jersey. Dr. Kannan serves as global lead project physician on clients’ drug development projects, providing medical expertise and support in the development and conduct of clinical trials. Dr. Kannan brings more than 10 years of experience as a physician and medical director to Labcorp, specializing in oncology and pediatrics. Before joining Labcorp, he practiced as Pediatric Hematologist/Oncologist and Pediatric Neuro-oncologist, affiliated with Children’s National Medical Center. Prior to that, he served as Instructor of Pediatrics and Pediatric Neuro-oncologist for the Department of Pediatric Neuro-oncology, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Boston Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School. The author or co-author of many peer-reviewed journal articles, presentations and abstracts, Dr. Kannan joined Labcorp in November 2018.

Carlo Lanza, MD, PhD
Executive Medical Officer

Carlo Lanza, MD, PhD, is Executive Medical Officer for Labcorp Clinical Development Services, based in Lugano, Switzerland. Dr. Lanza performs medical monitoring and safety assessments on Phase 1-4 clinical trials for Labcorp clients. He leads early phase and translational research early development programs with targeted therapies, small molecules, biologics and gene therapy. Dr. Lanza also oversees development of late-stage development strategies, delivery and approval of registrational programs. He brings more than 20 years of experience in clinical research and development as a physician and medical director, specializing in pediatrics and oncology. Before joining Labcorp, he served as Medical Director for Medicines for Malaria Venture in Geneva, Switzerland. Dr. Lanza has also held leadership positions with Novartis Oncology, Pfizer Global R&D, and AstraZeneca UK. Carlo joined Labcorp in 2012.

Medical Director

Wojciech Massalski, MD, is Medical Director for Labcorp Clinical Development Services, based in Maidenhead, United Kingdom. He serves as global lead project physician on client projects, providing medical expertise and support in the development and conduct of clinical trials. This includes reviewing feasibility of investigator sites and recruitment of trial subjects and performing feasibility risk assessment and data safety monitoring on assigned projects. Dr. Massalski has more than 20 years of experience as a physician, clinical researcher and medical director. Before Labcorp, he was Senior Medical Officer for Chiltern International in the UK. He also has held clinical research and medical monitoring positions with Pfizer and Synexus Limited in the UK. Dr. Massalski joined Labcorp in April 2019.

Dr. Mateo performs medical and safety monitoring on assigned projects; develops and reviews protocols, case report forms and other data and materials, and contributes to the scientific strategic leadership of the Oncology area at Labcorp. Dr. Mateo has more than 30 years of experience as a physician, clinical researcher, and medical director, previously holding positions with AMGEN, Boehringer-Ingelheim, IQVIA, IVAX Argentina, Syneos Health, Bristol-Myers Squibb and other drug development and health care organizations. Dr. Mateo joined Labcorp in November 2020.

Valery Novikov, MD, PhD, is Senior Medical Director for Labcorp Clinical Development Services, based in Paris, France. She is responsible for the medical strategy and execution of clients’ clinical research projects. Dr. Novikov reviews protocols, case report forms, clinical trial reports, new drug applications, laboratory values, adverse events, data tables and other data and materials. She also is responsible for medical and safety monitoring on assigned projects. She brings more than 20 years of national and international clinical research experience to Labcorp. Before joining Labcorp, Dr. Novikov served as Clinical Study Director for Sanofi in France. He has also held clinical research positions with Generium, Helios Clinical Research, and PRA International in Moscow, Russia. Dr. Novikov joined Labcorp in August 2019.

Executive Medical Director

Martine Poelman is Executive Medical Director, Oncology, for Labcorp Clinical Development Services, based in Brussels, Belgium. She provides medical and scientific support to help advance drug development in hematological malignancies for Labcorp clients. Martine brings more than 30 years of experience in clinical research and development as a physician and medical director, specializing in pediatrics and oncology, to Labcorp. Before assuming her current position, Martine served more than 15 years as Global Head of Oncology Research for Labcorp, providing medical monitoring for more than 200 clinical trials. Before joining Labcorp, she served as Clinical Research Physician, Hemato-Oncology-Infectiology, for Eli Lilly in Brussels. Before going into research, she served as Bone Marrow Transplantation and Hemato-Oncology Physician for the Department of Pediatric Oncology, Wilhelmina Children’s Hospital, in The Netherlands. Martine joined Labcorp in November 1996.

Senior Medical Director

Chia Portera, MD, PhD, is Senior Medical Director for Labcorp Clinical Development Services, based in Princeton, New Jersey. She evaluates and establishes drug development strategies for clients’ clinical research projects and provides scientific/clinical expertise to project teams. Dr. Portera develops, reviews and revises protocols, clinical trial reports, new drug applications, and other data and documents, and is responsible for medical and safety monitoring on assigned projects. She has more than 10 years of experience as a medical oncologist and medical director in clinical research and development. As a medical director at Genentech before joining Labcorp, Dr. Portera led clinical development strategies of post-market therapies for treatment of HER2+ breast cancer. She joined Labcorp in July 2015.

Kamal Veer Singh Saini, MD

Kamal Veer Singh Saini, MD, is Executive Medical Director, Oncology, for Labcorp Clinical Development Services, based in Brussels, Belgium. Kamal is a board-certified medical oncologist, with an active license to practice in the UK. He contributes to the scientific strategic leadership of the Oncology area at Labcorp, and provides clinical and medical expertise to project teams and other Labcorp departments on clients’ drug development projects. Kamal brings more than 15 years of experience in clinical research and development to Labcorp. He previously served as Associate Scientific Director for an academic research organization and as Medical Advisor, Institute Jules Bordet, Brussels. The author or co-author of several peer-reviewed journal articles, Kamal joined Labcorp in June 2015.

Chiara Sguotti, MD
Senior Medical Director

Chiara Sguotti, MD, is Senior Medical Director for Labcorp Clinical Development Services, based in Milano, Italy. She is responsible for all medical activities related to clients’ drug development projects. Dr. Sguotti provides medical expertise to project teams, reviews protocols and other data and materials, and provides medical and safety monitoring on assigned projects. She has more than 20 years of clinical development and medical affairs experience implementing and managing phase I to III solid tumor trials and has been involved in developing different classes of agents such as chemotherapeutic, endocrine, biological, and immune compounds. Before joining Labcorp, Dr. Sguotti held senior positions with Merck Seronno and Novartis AG in Switzerland, and Sanofi-Aventis, Pharmacia and Upjohn, and Sandoz in Italy. She joined Labcorp in January 2013.

Senior Medical Director

Ivana Teodorovic, MD, is Senior Medical Director for Labcorp Clinical Development Services, based in Brussels, Belgium. Dr. Teodorovic serves as project physician and provides scientific support on global and regional oncology studies for Labcorp clients. She develops, reviews and revises protocols, and coordinates and performs medical monitoring and review of patient data. Dr. Teodorovic brings more than 30 years of experience as a physician and medical director in drug research and development. Before joining Labcorp, she served more than 10 years as Coordinating Physician for the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Data Center Company (EORTC) in Brussels, where she authored the SOP-EORTC Tissue Research Policy. Dr. Teodorovic began her career as a certified anatomopathologist at the Institute for Oncology and Radiology in Belgrade, Serbia. She joined Labcorp in May 2005.

Laura Vidal, MD
Executive Medical Director

Laura Vidal, MD, is Executive Medical Director for Labcorp Clinical Development Services, based in Madrid, Spain. Dr. Vidal is the Medical Head of the Oncology group in EU. She contributes to the development of Labcorp policies involving medical, safety and therapeutics; serves as point of contact for key clients on business oversight; manages relationships with investigators/sites for clinical trials, and mentors clinical research physicians and medical directors across the company. Dr. Vidal has more than 15 years of experience as a physician, clinical oncologist, and medical director. Before joining Labcorp, she was Executive Medical Director for Syneos Health in Madrid, and previously served as a physician, medical oncologist, and clinical trials coordinator for a hospital in Barcelona. Dr. Vidal has authored or co-authored dozens of peer-reviewed journal articles and received numerous health and research awards. She joined Labcorp in December 2020.

Ronald Walls, MD, MBA
Senior Medical Director

Ronald Walls, MD, MBA, is Senior Medical Director, Global Clinical Development, based in Princeton, New Jersey. He provides medical and safety monitoring on client projects, reviews medical data, and develops and reviews protocols, case report forms and other materials. Dr. Walls has more than 20 years of experience in the biopharma industry, holding positions of increasing responsibility at many top biopharmaceutical companies. Dr. Walls is the founder of The Alliance of Minority Medical Associations and was appointed by former President George W. Bush as Chair of Secretary of Health and Human Services Tommy Thompson’s Roundtable for Disparities Affecting Men of Color. A much-requested speaker and subject matter expert on how to increase the accrual and retention of minority patients and physicians in industry-sponsored clinical research, he joined Covance in March 2021.

Liang Wan, MD, PhD
Medical Director

Liang Wan, MD, PhD, is Medical Director for Labcorp Clinical Development Services in Shanghai, China. He serves as lead project physician on clients’ drug development projects, provides medical/scientific expertise to project teams, reviews protocols and medical data, and is responsible for medical and safety monitoring on assigned projects. Dr. Wan has more than 25 years of experience as a physician, research clinician and medical director with therapeutic experience in oncology, gastroenterology, and hematology. Before joining Labcorp, he was Medical Director for IQVIA in Shanghai, serving as Global or Regional Medical Advisor on assigned projects. He began his career as a surgeon and clinical investigator at Shanghai Jiao Tong University Rui Jin Hospital. Dr. Wan joined Labcorp in May 2019.

Howard Yeh, MD, is Senior Medical Director (Los Angeles, CA), based in Princeton, New Jersey. He presents medical/scientific capabilities to clients and participates in feasibility discussions related to project proposals, builds client relationships and relationships with investigators/sites for clinical trials, and serves as lead project physician on clients’ drug development projects. Dr. Yeh has more than 15 years of experience as a medical director in clinical research and drug development. Before joining Labcorp, he was Medical Director for Johnson and Johnson, Janssen Oncology Clinical Development Services, in Pennsylvania. He previously served as Medical Director for Amgen Clinical Development Services in California. The author or co-author of nearly two dozen peer-reviewed journal articles, Dr. Yeh joined Labcorp in May 2016.

Reigetsu Yoshikawa, MD, PhD, is Senior Medical Director for Labcorp Clinical Development Services in Osaka, Japan. She contributes to the development of medical strategies and execution of clients’ clinical programs and provides medical/scientific expertise to project teams. Dr. Yoshikawa has more than 30 years of experience as a physician, medical director/advisor, and professor of medicine in Japan. Before joining Labcorp, she was Senior Medical Advisor for Eli Lilly and previously served as Senior Medical Lead for Dainippon Sumitomo Pharma in Japan. Dr. Yoshikawa has served on the editorial boards of several peer-reviewed journals and has authored or co-authored dozens of articles, presentations, and abstracts. She joined Labcorp in January 2021.
