Model: Muscle atrophy

Leg casting for a muscle atrophy model is an approach used to investigate muscle wasting, usually by immobilizing a subject's unilateral hindlimb. Surgical tape is cut and wrapped around the hindlimb in knee joint extension/ankle plantar flexion position. The fitting is checked and the forefoot left exposed to monitor adverse events. The cast is shaped with water then dried.
