Viscosity for physical chemistry testing

Viscosity for Physical Chemistry Testing evaluates the test substance’s (particularly liquids, but possibly gases) resistance to flow or change shape. The OECD 114 guidelines describe five methods to establish viscosity measurements at a temperature of 20°C and at 40°C: capillary viscometer, flow cup, rotational viscometer, rolling ball viscometer and the drawing ball viscometer. Overall, viscosity can be established using two different approaches – dynamic shear viscosity (force applied) and kinematic viscosity (flowrate over stationary material).
