Cannulation: Carotid artery

In small animal models, vascular access is critical for investigating clinical performance measures and treatment effects. Carotid artery cannulation is used for many applications. Arterial cannulation can be used to monitor hemodynamic parameters such as mean arterial pressure and heart rate and to infuse standard treatments and potential therapies.

Blood sampling can also take place via arterial cannula to further analyze underlying treatment mechanisms. Arterial cannular implantation takes place under anesthesia. After implantation, the model has free movement, using a swivel set-up, allowing for continuous evaluation for monitoring, infusing and sampling.
