Inhalation as a primary dose route, or as an alternative route for drugs already tested via another route, is increasingly considered by drug developers, as it can offer improved delivery for a given clinical indication. Covance has conducted inhalation toxicology studies across a range of animal models for more than 30 years. It is this leadership position in toxicology that has allowed for continued investment in the scientific personnel, instrumentation and new facilities necessary to provide industry-leading inhalation studies. Covance offers extensive options in study parameters, including:
- Study length ranging from acute up to 2-year chronic and carcinogenicity studies
- Metabolism, genotoxicity, neurotoxicity and reproductive and developmental toxicology study types
- Atmosphere generation, including gas and vapor, liquid or powder aerosol and dry powder inhalers
- Special techniques, including respiratory rate monitoring, utilizing state-of-the-art exposure systems
