In Microbiology, a full range of microbiology laboratory testing is provided, including bacteriology, mycobacteriology, mycology, parasitology, and virology testing.

Bacteriology

In Bacteriology, expert laboratory technicians are working to identify aerobic and anaerobic bacteria derived from all specimen types including oral, tissue, ocular, sinus, sputum, urine, blood, wound, and other sources. We also provide semi-quantitative or quantitative microbial cultures, as well as antimicrobial susceptibility testing.

Mycobacteriology

In Mycobacteriology, identification of mycobacteria is performed by conventional culture and automated techniques, and we have extensive experience with global multi-drug resistant tuberculosis testing. Our services in this area also include antimicrobial susceptibility testing.

Mycology

In the Mycology area, fungi, including yeasts, dermatophytes, and other molds are identified. We also provide yeast antifungal susceptibility testing.

Parasitology

In Parasitology, Intestinal and blood parasites are identified using concentration and permanent fixed stain techniques.

Virology

In Virology, cell cultures and shell vial techniques are used to isolate and identify viruses, as well as Chlamydia.

Molecular Diagnostics

In Molecular Diagnostics, we offer state-of-the-art DNA-based identification of bacterial isolates by ribotyping and 16S rRNA gene sequencing.  We also perform bacterial strain typing by PFGE to determine strain similarities among specific bacterial isolates, and we offer resistance gene detection and DNA probe services.
