Selected targets of NRSF
RE1-silencing transcription factor (NRSF ) is a member of
the Kruppel-type zinc finger transcription factor family. It is a transcriptional
repressor of neuronal genes in non-neuronal tissues. It represses transcription by
binding a DNA sequence element called the neuron-restrictive silencer element.
NRSF is also found in undifferentiated neuronal progenitor
cells and it is thought that this repressor may act as a master negative regular of
neurogenesis. NRSF targets regulate a lot of cellular
processes such as cytoskeleton remodeling, cell adhesion, proteolysis and others [1 ], [2 ].
NRSF may regulate transcription of Tryptase gamma 1
(Tryptase gamma ) and thereby modulate proteolysis [3 ], [4 ].
Another target of NRSF is Mitogen-activated protein
kinase kinase kinase 9 (MLK1(MAP3K9) ), which is a regulator
of apoptosis [5 ], [6 ].
NRSF may also regulate Potassium voltage-gated channel,
Shab-related subfamily, member 2 (Kv2.2 ), which controls
potassium transport [7 ], [8 ].
Such targets of NRSF like Spectrin, alpha, erythrocytic 1
(SPTA1 ), Microtubule-associated protein 1B
(MAP-1B ), Kinesin family member 5B
(KIF5B ), Kinesin heavy chain member 2A
(Kif2a ), Carcinoembryonic antigen-related cell adhesion
molecules 3, 4, 7, 20 and 21 (CEACAM3 ,
CECAM4 , CEACAM7 ,
CEACAM20 and CEACAM21 ) regulate
cytoskeleton remodeling, phagocytosis, microtubule-based movements and cell adhesion
[4 ], [6 ], [8 ], [9 ], [10 ], [11 ], [12 ].
In addition, NRSF can regulate the transcription of
Carcinoembryonic antigen-related cell adhesion molecule 8
(CD67 ), which is a regulator of immune response [8 ], [13 ].
