Covance is sponsoring the satellite symposium, Recent Advances in Biomarker Discovery for Parkinson's Disease, on November 13th, 2011 at the Society for Neuroscience Annual Meeting, Washington, D.C. The symposium is being organized by Covance scientists Robert Martone, Neuroscience Therapeutic Area Lead, Biomarker Center of Excellence, Peggy Taylor, Director, Antibody Products, and Bruce Gitter, Senior Principal Scientist and Manager, Nuclear Medicine Imaging, Neuroscience.
Parkinson’s disease affects over 4 million people worldwide, and current treatment options are limited to those that ameliorate symptoms rather than modify disease progression. The development of disease modifying therapies will require biomarkers that will enable early patient identification and stratification, and provide measures of the rate of disease progression, specific drug target engagement, and disease modification by therapeutic interventions.
Symposium speakers include:
-
Thomas Montine, M.D., Ph.D., Professor and Interim Chair, Director of Neuropathology, Alvord Endowed Chair in Neuropathology, University of Washington Medical Center
Title: Risk Assessment and Biomarkers for Parkinson’s Disease
-
Ken Marek, M.D., President, Co-Founder, Senior Scientist, Institute of Neurodegenerative Disorders
Title: Molecular Neuroimaging: Developing a Translational toolbox for Parkinson Disease
-
Jeffery Vance, M.D, Ph.D., Chair of the Dr. John T. Macdonald Foundation Department of Human Genetics, Director of the Center for Genomic Medicine at the John P. Hussman Institute for Human Genomics, University of Miami
Title: Pathway Analyses Converging the Genetic Complexity of Parkinson Disease
Join the discussions regarding recent innovations in imaging, genomic, proteomic and fluid biomarkers of Parkinson’s disease and their potential applications to the clinic.
Date & Time: Sunday, November 13, 6:30 PM - 10:00 PM
Location: Grand Hyatt Washington, Constitution Ballroom CDE
Contact: Robert Martone
