COVANCE CENTRAL LABORATORY ANNOUNCES MILESTONE

Geneva, Switzerland, November 23, 2000 — Covance Inc. (NYSE:CVD) announced today that its European Central Laboratory Services, based in Geneva, Switzerland, has achieved the significant milestone of receiving and processing the one millionth patient visit kit since the facility was opened in 1992. Covance's central laboratory creates and supplies customized collection kits which contain all of the materials and step-by-step instructions a clinical trials investigator needs to gather patient specimens and return them to Covance for analysis; Covance then organizes and presents this data to the sponsor of the clinical trial for submission to regulatory authorities.

At a ceremony held in Geneva today to celebrate this milestone, Agostino Fede, Vice-President of Operations at Covance European Central Laboratories, presented a commemorative gift to the sponsor of the clinical trial protocol that produced the one millionth patient visit kit received. The event was attended by representatives of Novartis for whom the kit was prepared, and the Covance management team in Geneva. Also present at the award ceremony was Geneva's Minister of the Economy and Foreign Affairs, Carlo Lamprecht.
