COVANCE ANNOUNCES INTERACTIVE EXTENSION OF
e-CONFERENCE WEB-BASED TECHNOLOGY

Interactive message community available for clinical trials

PRINCETON, N.J., 14 August 2000 — Covance Inc. (NYSE: CVD) announces a new, interactive extension of their web-based technology e-Conference seminar series — the Covance MEDForum Online Community.

Hosted at e-Conference, Covance MEDForum can be accessed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It provides users an opportunity to participate in our message board community where they can delve deeper into e-Conference topics. Users can review previously conducted e-Conferences (the series was launched in April 2000), delve deeper into drug development topics, post questions, receive updates on products and services, and exchange ideas relative to the topics presented in the e-Conference seminar series. Each e-Conference presentation (along with any other documents, papers, etc., relevant to each e-Conference) will be archived on the MEDForum for any user to access.

At present, Covance is the only CRO utilizing this new web-based e-Conference technology program to showcase their expertise in an innovative and convenient venue — right from your desktop via the web. This program provides an educational interface by combining Covance's scientific thought leaders and a network of industry experts with topics relevant to the drug development process.

Each e-Conference will vary in subject matter and be presented during the second or third week of every month, excluding July and August. Presenters may include a combination of up to two internal and/or external experts in their fields. Each e-Conference will run from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon (Eastern Standard Time), including presentation time and a question and answer session. A chat room will be available up to 20 days after each conference.

Attendees have the ability to view PowerPoint visuals on the web while listening to the presenter(s) via a separate telephone line. Participants may register for the e-Conference seminars at any time at: www.covance.com/econference. Each registrant is then emailed the necessary instructions, along with their unique password, which grants them access to any future e-Conference. On the day of the e-Conference, each registrant just needs to go to the web site and click the "Already Registered" button and they're linked right into the e-Conference.

"Already registered" participants can login with their Covance username and password, then choose to access the MEDForum message community. If not registered, users then select the "Instant Registration" button and proceed to fill out the form to obtain a username and password.

This e-Conference program itself was launched on 14 April 2000. Previous conference topics archived on the site include:

  • 14 April 2000 — "Holter Monitoring," Dr. Dan Goodman, Director of Medical Affairs, Covance Central Diagnostics Services
  • 19 May 2000 — "Pediatric Clinical Trials," Dr. Paula Botstein, Consultant, Botstein Associates and Dr. Christopher Paul-Milne, Sr. Research Fellow of Tufts Center for the Study of Drug Development at Tufts University
  • 8 June 2000 — "Diagnostic Imaging," Mike Smith, Executive Director, Covance Imaging Center
The next e-Conference will be:
  • 7 September 2000 — " Pharmacogenomics," Taylor Crouch, CEO and President and Bruce Maloff, Vice President, Marketing, Variagenics.
