Due to our strong relationships with quality couriers, our superior packaging, and proximity to three major air cargo hubs, we achieved an overall 99.7% success rate for samples received within stability in 2006. Our multilingual logistics team provides customers with exceptional import/export expertise and contingency planning to ensure the safe delivery of patient samples. In addition, they are trained on the latest ICAO/IATA, Transport Canada, and DOT 49CFR shipping requirements for the transport of dangerous goods.

DHL U.S. Domestic Service Change
25 November 2008 — As indicated by our previous communication, Covance Central Laboratory Services (Covance CLS) will be partnering with United Parcel Services (UPS) for U.S. domestic courier services.
We selected UPS for a variety of reasons, many of which will enhance the shipping process at your site. Some of the highlights are:
- Your shipments to us will follow a special UPS process for highly valuable shipments
- Simplified shipping labels, reducing your time for shipping preparation
- Later pick up times in many areas, extending scheduling time for patient visits
- Special deliveries on Sundays and most US holidays (with the exception of Christmas and New Year's Day)
- A dedicated toll free phone number staffed by specially trained UPS call center personnel to support the unique needs of clinical trials
- The UPS hub is strategically located to allow for multiple recovery contingencies to ensure specimens arrive within stability
New Process for Shipping Specimens

- This UPS transition pack contains UPS shipping labels and a new page for your investigator manual. If you are participating in more than one clinical trial with Covance CLS, please make copies of this page and place one in each investigator manual.
- Beginning 1 December, please call UPS at 1-866-961-3790 for specimen pickup. We recommend that you call UPS prior to your next patient visit to confirm local pick up times.
- This is a special toll free number for Covance CLS sites only. Scheduling pickups via the UPS automated system or on the Internet may circumvent the special procedures Covance has in place with UPS.
- You may discard other courier air bills you have on hand for Covance CLS shipments. Note: If your sponsor has specified another specialty courier for your protocol, their instructions supersede this notice.
- In the rare instance that you ship specific samples directly to a referral lab via DHL, we will be providing detailed instructions in a separate communication.
