Plant Metabolism
Covance offers a range of plant metabolism studies for European, US EPA and JMAFF registrations. Studies in crops grown to maturity can be conducted in new purpose-built glasshouse facilities at Harrogate. These facilities are equipped with computer-controlled heating, lighting and humidity. Confined rotational crop studies for EPA using radiolabeled pesticides can also be conducted under glass. Our staff are experienced in conducting short-term and long-term plant metabolism studies and in isolating and characterizing metabolites.
Expertise is also available for conducting in vitro studies using plant cell cultures.
For temperate crops, plants can be grown and treated in outdoor plots in Harrogate or Münster to give more realistic information or to provide concentrations of metabolites in mature crops.
More exotic crop types can be grown and treated with radiolabeled pesticides in other countries, for example the USA, by sub-contracting the "in-life" phase.
