Blood Products
The transmission of bloodborne viruses through administration of blood-derived products is a major safety concern for manufacturers. A number of regulatory bodies require in-process plasma pool screening for the presence of specific viruses prior to manufacture. To assist clients with this requirement, Biotechnology Services has been working in the development, validation and implementation of high-throughput PCR screening of plasma pools of human and animal origin since 1996.
Features of our PCR screening service
- In-house, validated extraction processes for animal or human plasma
- Use of Qiagen viral extraction kits for rapid extraction of human plasma
- Automation of extraction using validated protocols on the Qiagen Biorobot™
- Use of recommended national and international controls (e.g. NIBSC B19 Working Standard positive control) where available
- Rapid turnaround of data, e.g. less than 72 hours
- Dedicated teams of trained operators who understand the necessity for on-time delivery of quality data
