Mr. Joe Herring is Chairman and CEO of Covance Inc., one of the world's largest drug development services companies with annual revenues greater than $2 billion and more than 11,000 employees in more than 60 countries. Mr. Herring became Covance's CEO in January 2005, and he was elected Chairman of the Board in January 2006.
Mr. Herring joined Covance in 1996 as Corporate Vice President and General Manager of North America Early Development. Three years later, he was promoted to the position of Global President of Early Development Services, responsible for worldwide Preclinical testing and Phase I services. In November 2001, he assumed the position of President and Chief Operating Officer of Covance where he was responsible for all of Covance's business units worldwide, including Early Development, Clinical Development, Central Laboratories and Commercialization Services. He was elected to Covance's Board of Directors in June 2004.
Prior to joining Covance, Mr. Herring worked 18 years in the American Hospital Supply Corporation/Baxter International/Caremark International organization, where he held senior leadership positions in sales, marketing and general management positions, including Vice President and General Manager of the company’s oncology business.
Mr. Herring is a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Clinical Research Organizations (ACRO) — a professional organization that advances clinical outsourcing to improve the quality, efficiency and safety of biomedical research. He also serves on the Board of Trustees for Princeton Health Systems — a leading provider of healthcare services in New Jersey that offers compassionate care supported by advanced technologies and an outstanding medical staff.
Mr. Herring earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration from Louisiana State University in 1978.
