Mr. James Lovett is Corporate Senior Vice President of Covance Inc. As General Counsel and Secretary, he has responsibility for Covance’s legal affairs worldwide, as well as corporate government affairs and corporate security. He also serves as the leader for two of the company’s businesses: Covance Market Access Services, which provides a full range of market access services to the pharmaceutical and biotech industries; and Covance Nutritional Chemistry & Food Safety, which offers a full range of nutritional, chemical, and food safety testing for a variety of industries and products. He is a member of Covance’s Executive Committee and reports to the Chief Executive Officer.
Prior to joining Covance in 2001, Mr. Lovett was Associate General Counsel and Assistant Secretary at FMC Corporation, a Fortune 500 manufacturer of machinery and chemicals for industry and agriculture. Before FMC, Mr. Lovett was a Partner at McDermott Will & Emery, in Chicago, Illinois. He also served as law clerk to the Honorable Boyce F. Martin, Jr., U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
Mr. Lovett is a member and former chair of the Legal and Government Affairs Committee for the Association of Clinical Research Organizations (ACRO). He also serves as a trustee for Scholar Academies, a charitable charter school management organization committed to eradicating inequity in urban education by closing the achievement gap for today’s youth.
Mr. Lovett earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Northwestern University and a Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School, cum laude.
